Where Should You Write

Welcome back to Motivational Monday!  Have you tried “writing into the dark” yet?

Probably the second most-asked question after “Where do you get your ideas?” is “Where do you write?”  Really?  Maybe you should ask yourself, “Where do you want to write?”

You know that all you need is a pen and some paper, right?  You don’t need a fancy laptop computer, or desktop, or a vintage typewriter.  Oh, they’re all fun things to have, but you don’t NEED them.

So, if all you need is a pen and some paper, the question about where you write is really up to you.  You can write in a car, at a bar, on a train, on a plane, in the mall or in a hall. (I’m beginning to sound like Dr. Seuss, aren’t I?)  But it’s true.  Anyplace you are is a place you can write.

Maybe you’re waiting for your “ideal office.”  Believe me, it won’t help. You’re just making excuses.

I love to write out on my porch.  There’s nothing like fresh air and the smell of the pine trees for inspiration.  But sometimes it’s snowing outside, or it’s so hot you could wilt out there.  Then I cuddle up on the couch, or in my recliner, or wherever.  Sometimes it’s so cold out that I snuggle under my electric blanket and write in bed, like Mark Twain.  (Well, he probably didn’t have an electric blanket, but you get my drift.)

So, my writing friends, stop making excuses.  You can write anywhere, anytime.  You just have to do it.  (This is tough love from your fellow writer.)  JUST DO IT!

Happy Reading and Writing to you all,

Jill-Ayn
