Kindle Unlimited

Hello Fellow Readers and Writers–

First of all, let me say that I’m finishing the first draft of Make-One Missing, the eighth book in the Two Old Biddies Mini-Mystery Series.  That’s the good news.

Now let me address Amazon’s newest program, Kindle Unlimited.  As an author, I’m not a fan of this.  It has its good point–people pay, I believe, $9.99 a month and can get any book that’s on Kindle Select for free.  That’s nice, because they can try new authors to see if they like them.  I’m all for that!

The bad point is that my book sales are down, because of it.  There’s a “fund” that authors get paid from, but we don’t know how much we get for each book until a couple of months later.  I price my books at the lowest figure, $2.99, because I want them to be affordable for my readers.  Honestly I get $2.05 of that as a royalty from Amazon.  But if I only get a dollar for each book “sold” through Kindle Unltd., it’s not a good deal for me.

I’ve decided to keep the first 2 or 3 books in each series on Kindle Select, so readers can get a feel for my writing, and decide whether or not they want to continue reading the series.  But I’ll be taking later books in the series off Kindle Select, because, let’s face it, I need to make a living from my writing.  Writing is my livelihood, my “job,” and I hope readers understand this.  Unfortunately, taking the books off Kindle Select also means they won’t be able to be loaned to friends.  Sorry about that.

I don’t know what other authors intend to do about this new program, but this is what I’ll be doing.  Let me know your feelings about this.  I’m open to suggestions.

Happy Reading and Writing to you all,

Jill-Ayn
